Events

Explore new games by participating in community challenges! Join Achievement of the Week, monthly challenges, seasonal competitions, and special-themed events to earn unique badges.

Several events are timed and only last a short while. However, there are typically Evergreen events that allow you to earn the achievements whenever you'd like!

All events have a forum topic for you to read more information. If you find an event that interests you, feel free to read more about it!

Yearly Events

These events are timed but are constantly going on throughout the year. Feel free to hop in or out whenever!

Achievement of the Week

Current (2026):

Done every year since 2014, an achievement is selected every week and month for you to collect. Collecting enough every year will get you a badge!

Each week, five random games are picked and voted on by last week's earners in the RetroAchievements Discord server. Each month, games are nominated and voted on similarly to the above.

The current achievement for the week is always listed on the front page. Feel free to try and earn it!

This event has automatic tracking. As long as you earn the achievement, you won't have to do anything else!

RA Roulette (RAWR)

Current (2026):

Since 2022, each week three random achievements on the site (with limited exceptions, such as no Kaizo or MMORPGs) are rolled for users to collect. Earn 52 in a year for a badge!

Like with Achievement of the Week, tracking is automatic. You only need to earn the achievement that week to get credit!

Challenge League

Current: Challenge League 8 – Cheevomon League

A year-long challenge with requirements that shift each year. View the forum topic and hop in!

Unlike with the prior events, tracking is a lot more manual.

Ongoing Events

These events are timed but are constantly going on. Unlike the above, they aren't yearly, and constantly go on as one single event.

Feel free to hop in or out whenever!

Leaderboard of the Month

Every half-month has a new leaderboard for you to try to get to the top of. While it is ongoing, there are seasonal badges for you to earn.

The Unwanted

A monthly event that revolves around playing underplayed sets. Several sets that are underplayed are picked out each month, and you can earn credits for beating or mastering them!

Peak Streak

An event where you have to master one game a day every day with no interruptions.

After 30 and 100 days, you get a badge!

This event is ongoing, you can start and stop your streak whenever you'd like. However, if you want to participate, you must use the forum for tracking.

PlayJam

An event centered around playing games from DevJam, an event for developers that replicates the experience of rollouts for already existing consoles.

Current Events

These are the events that are currently active, allowing you to earn them. However, they are timed, meaning they will expire.

Wii Launch Event

Started on March 19, 2026, and lasting until July 19, 2026, this event coincides with the Wii rollout that occurred on March 19.

Users must beat (or master) any Wii game they choose to earn +1 point for each game beaten and +1 for each game mastered. After 15, 25, 35, and 50 points, you earn badges!

Some games have special bounties, giving you multipliers on the points you'd get for beating or mastering, either a 2x or 3x multiplier.

Pixelheart RAve: Retro Dating Adventure

A "Dating Sim" inspired event where players "meet" with various characters, picking polls to raise (or lower) their affinity level with each character.

The event runs from February 24 to May 4, 2026.

Community Hosted Events

Started in 2026, Community Hosted Events are a framework for players to host event ideas that are smaller in scope or do not meet the criteria of an event team hosted event.

Unlike other events, which are hosted by the events team, these events are proposed by members of the RetroAchievements community, support a wider variety of event styles, are shorter, and allow softcore participation. However, they do not have their own badges. Instead, you earn points towards a central "Community Events" badge.

To learn more about events, be sure to join the Discord server.

Evergreen Events

Evergreen events are untimed versions of concluded timed events that allow participants to delve into events of the past and be rewarded if they are up to the challenge.

Typically, you must do all the challenges of the original event, and usually require more effort than the original event. For example, the original event may have let you do only a few achievements, while the evergreen would want you to do all of them.

Due to the nature of Evergreen, being untimed, you have as long as you are on RetroAchievements to complete them.

Several events are automated, meaning you just need to earn all the required achievements to get the badge.

A few, however, are non-automated. You need to put in extra effort to do tasks beyond just earning achievements, or earning non-specific achievements. For these, use the forum topic to hop in and see what you have to do.

Several spreadsheets exist to help you on your manual journey to the non-automated badges. Read the forum topic to see the up-to-date list of events, more links to help you out, and more information if you're interested in hopping in!
